When we think of Asakusa, we often imagine a busy place full of tourists during the day.
But one evening, I found a calm and beautiful side of Asakusa.
It was at the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center, right in front of Kaminarimon Gate.
This building is known for giving tourist help during the day. But in the evening, its 8th floor terrace becomes a great free spot to enjoy the night view.
My visit: A peaceful evening view
I visited the terrace around 7:00 p.m. on a weekday.
It was quiet. Only a few groups were there—some Japanese families, some foreign couples.
From the terrace, I could see the lights of Sensoji Temple, Kaminarimon, and even the Tokyo Skytree.
The terrace is free to enter. You can just walk in and enjoy the view.
It felt like I was discovering a secret part of the city.
The café and facilities
Next to the terrace, there is a small café.
I didn’t go inside, but I could see through the glass. There was a couple enjoying coffee and the view.
The café is open 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and last orders are at 7:30 p.m.
There were open seats and the place felt calm.
It’s a great stop if you want to relax with a drink.
A helpful center for all travelers
The building has more than just a view.
At the 1st floor counter, you can ask questions in English, Chinese, or Korean.
There are free maps of Asakusa and also of nearby places like Ueno and Asakusabashi.

Personal touches that made me smile

The theme of the display changes sometimes, so you may find something new when you visit.
When to go
I recommend coming between sunset and ９:00 p.m.
After that time, Nakamise Street becomes quiet, and you can enjoy a peaceful view.
The terrace is open until 10:00 p.m., so don’t worry if you’re running late.

浅草といえば、昼間のにぎやかな観光地というイメージが強いかもしれません。
でも、私はある日の夜に、静かで心地いい「浅草のもう一つの顔」に出会いました。
その場所は、雷門のすぐ目の前にある「浅草文化観光センター」。
日中は観光案内所としてにぎわっているこの建物ですが、実は夜に訪れると、8階の展望テラスから浅草の夜景が楽しめる穴場スポットなのです。
私が行ったのは、平日の夜7時ごろ。
館内はとても静かで、8階のテラスには数組の家族連れやカップルがいるだけ。
展望スペースは無料で、浅草寺やスカイツリーまで一望できます。
昼の浅草も好きですが、夜の落ち着いた雰囲気は、どこか特別に感じました。
同じフロアにはカフェもあります。私は入らなかったのですが、外から様子を見ることができました。
この日はカップルが1組、お茶を飲みながら景色を楽しんでいました。
カフェは夜8時まで営業していて、ラストオーダーは19時半。席に余裕があり、静かに過ごしたい人にはぴったりだと思います。
館内には英語・中国語・韓国語など多言語に対応した案内もあり、1階のカウンターでは観光相談もできます。
浅草の地図やパンフレットはもちろん、上野や浅草橋など、周辺エリアの情報も手に入ります。
さらに、Wi-Fi、授乳室、バリアフリーのトイレ、外貨両替、セルフWi-Fiレンタル（WiFiBOX）も整っていて、海外からの旅行者にもとても便利です。
印象に残ったのは、館内の壁に貼られた観光客のメッセージ。
日本語もあれば、英語やハングルもあり、それぞれの人が浅草で何を感じたのかが垣間見えて、心がほっこりしました。

特に日が暮れてから２１時ごろまでの時間は、仲見世通りが落ち着いてきて、昼とは違う浅草の表情が味わえます。
